AMOR is a for-purpose human rights organisation and international educational partner (founded in 2001, registered in the UK in 2012) with the goal of educating and empowering young Mayan people and communities to help end poverty and transform their lives, communities and the world.
Our four-pillar model is simple but unique. AMOR works with communities in Guatemala and across the globe to build Community Transformation Centres which serve as Schools and house programmes that provide education and empowerment opportunities as well as humanitarian assistance for children and the most vulnerable members of society. In Guatemala, these Centres are home to the non-violent movement for peace, reconciliation and justice for the 22 Mayan ethnicities, for the preservation of their critically endangered knowledge, heritage, lands and lives.
These Community Transformation Hubs are home to the dream of peace, and the health, nutrition and homebuilding programmes designed by beneficiaries themselves to address extreme poverty and the silent humanitarian and environmental crisis currently consuming Guatemala. They also serve as museums to the memory of all those whose lives were brutally ended by holocaust and racism.
To date, AMOR has remodelled over 14 schools throughout Guatemala, educated more than 1,500 students, trained 2,100 women and 1,500 young people in human rights, fed 8,400 families, helped build 44 homes, and provided treatments for 2,800 malnourished children and mothers. All work has been carried out voluntarily over more than two decades. AMOR is committed to complete transparency, and in the interests of transparency we are in the process of having all works officially documented by the corresponding authorities, copies available upon request.
